The NAACP New Bedford Branch has several committees which handle specific issues. Click on a committee name to email the chair of the committee:
Legal Redress: (Attorney David Gomes)
- Receive complaints of discriminatory actions
- Investigate all cases reported to the Committee
- Supervise all litigation in which the Branch is interested
- Does not give general legal advice
Membership: (Bert Barao, Dr. Bruce Rose)
- Work throughout the year to maintain and increase membership
- Be responsible for planning and organizing membership campaigns
- Be responsible for soliciting new members and for securing renewals
Communications: (Interim – Richard Leary )
- Seek to promote media content with NAACP fundamental goals
- Endeavor to secure publicity for the work of the Branch
- Coordinate publication of the Branch Newsletter
- Oversee social media operations of the Branch
Freedom Fund Breakfast: (Renee Ledbetter, Peggy Dias)
- Plan and conduct fundraising activities
- Coordinate Annual Freedom Fund Breakfast
Economic Development: (Vacant)
- Implement local efforts and support National programs to preserve and expand economic empowerment among African-Americans and other communities of color
- Monitor economic development issues and their impact on communities of color and recommend Branch response, as appropriate
Education: (Shane Burgo)
- Seek to eliminate segregation and other discriminatory practices in public education
- Study local educational conditions affecting minority groups
- Keep informed of school conditions and strive to correct abuses where found
Housing: (Kristina da Fonseca)
- Study housing in local community and oppose all restrictive practices whether public or private
- Disseminate information and render other such assistance which may eliminate discrimination
