MPHA honors two health equity leaders

Please join Massachusetts Public Health Association (MPHA) on June 4 at 9:00 AM for a morning of inspiration and celebration as we spotlight the accomplishments of two health equity leaders.

Michael Curry, Esq., CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, will receive the Paul Revere Award for his unwavering leadership and commitment to reducing health inequities in our Commonwealth. Leon W. Russell, Chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors, will be presenting the award to Mr. Curry.

Martha Velez, Director of Human Services for the City of Lawrence, MA, will receive our Community Leadership Award for her inspirational and outstanding service to residents of Lawrence and surrounding communities, both during the COVID-19 epidemic and following the Columbia Gas explosions in 2018. Kendrys Vasquez, Mayor of Lawrence, will be presenting the award to Ms. Velez.

MPHA will also present a surprise tribute to local public health professionals from around the state, who have worked tirelessly and made great personal sacrifices throughout the pandemic to keep our communities safe.
